Now one can do apparently mindless puzzle playing with good cause. Fun and beneficial at the same time. What one basically does is to help scientist to work out the possible protein structures. Understanding protein structure is key to understanding how they work and the biggest one may have even 1000 amino acids.
Proteins can be involved in disease in many ways and while playing what appears to be just a puzzle, you help the scientist to understand this. At the same time they are also involved in other biological processes and for examble in turning plants to biofuel, which you may help too. Isn’t it great? General human puzzle solving abilities are far above any well developed computer program, so you can really be helpfull here.
