My summer fun has been thinking about my dream home. It is relatively small in size, ecological and above all energy efficient. Since I was kid, I’ve been drawing house plans, but this house has been both fun and demanding to plan. It has been a real brain puzzle. How to get all the functions fit in the smallest possible space. Thus far I’ve been able to fit five persons relatively comfortable home and plenty of storage in under 100 m2 (about 1000 sq ft).

I would want to use renewable materials if possible. This means straw bales as insulation, wooden siding and reed thatch (or wooden shingle), if one could make them sound and practical. Also using natural stones in foundations, copper pipes and light clay as an extra insulation might be reasonable. The materials should originate (be manufactured) in as short howl as possible. Because I did not want to fill my holiday with too much program, I had to do some sorting out with the possibilities. I decided that I wanted at least see Naples and the treasures of its famous Archaeological museum. Still after my visit to island of Capri in the last day there are still plenty of places to see. Among there are Herculaneum, nearby fishing island of Procida, the Vesuvius and the coast north of Naples, where there are a lot of minor sites of interest. Continue Reading »
